In real life
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, and is one of the most popular. His achievements include a Union victory in the American Civil War thus reuniting the nation, as well as championing the 13th amendment that ended slavery on US territory. Depending on what part of the United States you're in, his birthday is either recognized on President's Day, or on his actual date of birth. Although Lincoln ran in 1860 on the Republican ticket for president by 1864 to maintain support for reelection Lincoln ran as a Unionist with Democratic senator Andrew Johnson. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while attending the play Our American Cousin at Ford's Theater, becoming the first President to be assassinated while in office.
