Game Info[]

Great tile improvement. Constructed by a Great Scientist.

Strategy[]

The Academy provides generous bonuses to Science Science that can be further enhanced by adopting all of the social policies in the Freedom tree (in vanilla Civilization V), by researching Scientific Theory and Atomic Theory (from Gods & Kings onward), and by adopting New Deal (in Brave New World). The Koreans, the Babylonians, and any other civilization that receives a Great Scientist early in the game should use it to build an Academy, which will give them a substantial and lasting advantage in Science Science output.

Civilopedia entry[]

An academy is an institution where children can get an advanced lower (that is, pre-college) education. Academies come in all flavors - military, religious, government, and the like. Some are private, open only to the children of wealth or power or influence, while others are open to all children who meet their strict requirements. England's Eton College is one of the most famous academies in the world, taking in England's best and brightest boys between the ages of 13 and 18 since 1440.
