Air Superiority is a special unit ability in Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.
Game info[]
- Required technology: Doctrine: Air Power
- Cost: 1
- Description: Equips a unit with the missiles necessary to attack Needlejets and Locusts of Chiron in flight.
- Needlejets and Copters with this ability are substantially transformed into "Interceptors", losing roughly 20% of their range and no longer causing pacifism drones within faction territory, on attack they enjoy +100% attack vs air units other than Interceptors, but suffer a -50% penalty vs ground units. When defending against attacking aircraft they use their weapon value (but without the +100% modifier) instead of armor value, and may also scramble to defend nearby units.
- Non-flying units with this ability simply gain the ability to attack air and use their normal attack power vs both air and ground.
- Ground units with the Heavy Artillery ability and naval units need the Air Superiority ability to bombard flying units. This can be a very good way to eliminate Locusts of Chiron as it bypasses psi combat and damages the entire stack.
Needlejet units with this ability may be called "Tactical" or "Interceptor" depending on weapon level.
'Copter units with this ability may be called "Lifter" or "Rotor" depending on weapon level.
Ground and naval combat units with this ability will be labeled with the prefix "SAM" (surface-to-air missiles).
