Ancient Treasures: Introductory Conquest 1 is a scenario in Civilization III: Conquests. This is a simplified version of Mesopotamia created to showcase the game variation of Victory Point Scoring.
Description[]
According to ancient legend, many thousands of years ago an advanced civilization prospered in this land. Their people toiled to construct many tall obelisk-type structures, and left treasures of great value beneath each. Then, suddenly, the ancient people mysteriously disappeared -- but left behind valuable treasures at their monument sites. Now, in the present day, you must lead your people in a race against time -- and other cultures -- to discover and protect as many of these ancient treasure sites as possible.
Intro[]
It is 4000 BC -- the dawn of a new civilization! The distant ancestors of your people were nomads, but over the generations they have become skilled at farming, and are now ready to settle down in small communities.
Background[]
The hot winds blow relentlessly across these now barren lands, but at one time, a mighty civilization built great monuments in this region, and left valuable treasures buried near each. Recently, their ancient riches have been rediscovered – not only by your people but also by three others, all of which now race to recover the most wealth and treasure.
Special[]
This tutorial mission introduces the new VICTORY POINTS scoring feature. When you begin the game, notice a small Obelisk highlighted close to your starting location. This is a “treasure” or Victory Point site. Establish your first city on or near there, and quickly build a defensive unit to protect it.
Building a city, and then fortifying a unit on this VP site gets you started on the race for victory points. Throughout this mission, as you explore the map many other VP sites will be uncovered. Remember each civilization in the game will be trying to do the same thing. Plan ahead and defend each victory point location you capture, and victory will be yours!
Victory[]
You will receive points each turn that you hold a Victory Point site. You also receive points for each wonder completed, opposing units eliminated, and advancements researched. Keep a close watch on your neighbors; they are also searching for wealth and treasure and are not always friendly. Periodically check the Victory Status screen by pressing the "V" button located in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Pressing the “I” button will reopen this introductory dialog.
