The Axeman is a unique unit from the Fall of Rome scenario in Civilization V: Gods & Kings. Only the Vandal civilization can build it.

Strong, front-line land Unit, which can only be built by the Vandals. It has a higher Combat Strength than the Swordsman, which it replaces. It starts with the Charge promotion, giving it a combat bonus against damaged units.

The Axeman is the Vandal unique unit. It has a slightly higher Combat Strength than the Swordsman, which it replaces. Additionally it does not require any 
Iron resources. It starts with the Charge promotion, giving it a combat bonus against damaged units.
Civilopedia entry[]
Although there were many types of axes used as weapons by the barbarian tribes that beset Rome, the Vandals tended to favor the throwing axe, used as a missile weapon in battle as they closed with the foe. A variant of the francisca, a light-weight axe developed by the Franks in the 3rd Century AD, the Vandal version was thrown with an overhand motion that caused the axe to rotate in flight and so increased accuracy. Heavier than arrows and more accurate than spears, the throwing axe proved even more effective in naval combat after the Vandals conquered Roman Carthage.
