An Barracks is a building in Civilization II that allows the production of Veteran ground units. Any ground unit which spends its entire turn in the city is also completely repaired.
Barracks will be need to be rebuilt once gunpowder is discovered and a second time when mobile warfare is discovered. Barracks maintenance costs go up one coin for the building after the discovery of each of these technologies.
While Sun Tzu's War Academy has the veterancy benefits of a barracks, it does not have the repair properties of the building. Do not stop building barracks if you own The academy.
