A Belief is a feature of a religion in Civilization VII and its expansions that provides gameplay bonuses.

Mechanics[]

When creating a religion after building their first Temple, the player can select Reliquary and Founder Beliefs. Additional Founder Beliefs are unlocked through gameplay. Upon discovering the Theology Civic Civic, one Enhancer Belief can be selected.

Each belief can only be selected by one civilization — with the exception of Anitya, Covenant and Divine Inspiration, which are exempt from this restriction.

Reliquary beliefs[]

Reliquary Beliefs provide ways of earning Relics. Each religion has only one Reliquary Belief. The following reliquaries provide bonuses upon first-time converting of a Settlement Settlement.

Founder beliefs[]

Founder Beliefs provide bonuses for Settlement Settlements that are currently following your religion. One Founder Belief is selected upon founding the religion, with up to two additional Founder Beliefs awarded later through gameplay. Additional Founder Beliefs are extremely rare and are often triggered by random events, or by converting each Settlement Settlement in the Old World and/or Distant Lands.

This bonus transfers to your Palace in the Modern Age if you retain this belief by the end of the Exploration Age.
Desert Faith +2 Gold Gold for every Desert tile in othercivilizations' Settlement Settlements.
Feed the World +6 Food Food in your Settlement Settlements.
Holy Ecumene +4 Culture Culture for every foreign Settlement Settlement.
+1 Culture Culture for each of your Settlement Settlements.
Holy Waters +1 Happiness Happiness for every Marine tile in other civilizations' Settlement Settlements.
Interfaith Dialogue +4 Science Science for every foreign Settlement Settlement.
+1 Science Science for each of your Settlement Settlements.
Pushkaram +1 Influence Influence for every Navigable River tile in foreign Settlement Settlements.
Reincarnation +2 Science Science for every Tropical tile in other civilizations' Settlement Settlements.
Sacred Herds +1 Science Science for every Grassland tile in other civilizations' Settlement Settlements.
Salat All Building Buildings receive a +1 Happiness Happiness adjacency with the Temple.
Shamanism +2 Culture Culture for every Tundra tile in other civilizations' Settlement Settlements.
Shrines of the Kami +4 Culture Culture, Gold Gold, and Science Science for every Wonder Wonder in other civilization's Settlement Settlements.
Sky Gods +1 Culture Culture for every Plains tile in other civilizations' Settlement Settlements.
Stewardship +8 Culture Culture, Gold Gold, and Science Science for every tile that has a Natural Wonder Natural Wonder in other civilization's Settlement Settlements.
Tikkun Olam +2 Influence Influence for every foreign Settlement Settlement.
+1 Influence Influence for each of your Settlement Settlements.
Tithe +4 Gold Gold for every foreign Settlement Settlement.
+1 Gold Gold for each of your Settlement Settlements.
Vipassana +4 Happiness Happiness for every foreign Settlement Settlement.
+1 Happiness Happiness for each of your Settlement Settlements.

Enhancer beliefs[]

Enhancer Beliefs help players spread their religion. Each religion has only one Enhancer Belief.

Belief Effect
Conversion Newly founded Town Towns in Distant Lands start with this Religion in place.
Crusade +1 free War Support against Civilizations who have founded a Religion.
Dawah When a Trade Route Trade Route is established to a Settlement Settlement, it is converted to your Religion.
Defender of the Faith Units gain +5 Combat Strength Combat Strength in friendly Settlement Settlements that follow this Religion.
Divine Inspiration
(can be chosen by multiple players)
Gain 2 Missionaries when building a Wonder Wonder.
Inter Caetera Treasure Convoy's gain +1 Movement Movement and +5 Defense Strength Defense Strength.
Millenarianism Conquered Settlement Settlements are converted to your Religion.
Parampara +1 Relic Slot in Science Building Buildings in Cities Cities.
Stella Maris +2 Movement Movement to Missionaries when Embarked. All naval and embarked units receive +1 Movement Movement.
Sanctum +1 Relic Slot in Temples in Cities Cities.
Scripture +10% Production Production towards training Missionaries for every Relic.
Zeal Missionaries receive +1 charge.
