Civilopedia entry[]

Between Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Florida lies a swath of ocean that swallows ships and planes whole…or so the legend goes. Stories of missing and abandoned vessels in this region of the Atlantic Ocean began circulating as early as the 19th century. Since then, over 50 ships and 20 airplanes, both civilian and military crafts, have vanished while crossing the Bermuda Triangle. Both natural and supernatural rationales have been suggested to explain the disappearances, ranging from cyclones and rogue waves to time warps and UFOs.

Despite the Bermuda Triangle’s dramatic reputation, however, there is no evidence that more vessels go missing there than anywhere else in the ocean.

Trivia[]

  • The Bermuda Triangle's wonder quote comes from the poem The Missing Ships by American poet Albert Laighton.
