Hit fast and where the enemy is weakest – this was the philosophy of maneuver warfare, bewegungskrieg. Rather than attack fortified positions to whittle away the enemy’s troops, Prussian troops excelled at crippling supply lines, command centers, and other weak points that were vital to fortified centers. But Friedrich II’s military was not alone in this strategy – the principles of maneuver warfare undergirded other militaries, namely the Mongol hordes. A superior force of soldiers could crumble under low morale, lack of supplies, and outdated information.
