The exact nature of Civilization: Beyond Earth's "Great Mistake" has been the subject of much debate since being revealed as the game's cryptic backstory, and that ambiguity was absolutely deliberate, lead designers Will Miller and David McDonough said during a Firaxicon panel devoted to the catastrophe, a choice meant to reinforce the game's focus on the future, rather than distracting players with details about the past.
That hasn't stopped Miller and McDonough from having some fun imagining how an event like The Great Mistake might actually take place. In their mind, The Great Mistake had to fulfill certain requirements in order to prove disastrous enough to compel the world population to establish civilization on a new planet. It had to…
Greetings from Baltimore, MD! Firaxicon kicked off this morning with an interesting presentation from Lena Brenk, Civilization: Beyond Earth's lead producer, who discussed the challenges of accurately portraying the wide variety of cultures in the Civ. Because the game is rooted in multiculturalism and its audience is becoming increasingly international, Lena and the rest of Firaxis work hard to maximize immersion for players everywhere, consulting language "experts" -- sometimes even the friends and relatives of Firaxis team members -- to ensure cultural accuracy.
Beyond Earth presented a unique set of linguistic challenges due to its futurized take on the world's cultures. In many cases, the sponsors speak in fictional tongues that are a …
It's 3AM, you're hundreds of turns in, unable to turn the game off, doing everything in your power to help your blossoming civilization prosper, when Gandhi, the supposed pacifist, decides he's going to send a barrage of nukes your way. Your civilization is history, your game is over, all your hard work goes right down the drain.
The games in Sid Meier's Civilization franchise make for incredibly memorable moments, whether extraordinarily frustrating or exhilarating. To commemorate Firaxicon 2014, we want you to share the unforgettable episodes in your Civ history. Your comment could be featured in an upcoming video!

My first contact with the Civilization franchise was in the lower elementary school. Our teacher would put a transparency full of text on the overhead projector and then disappear behind the computer on his desk for the rest of the lecture while we copied the contents of the transparency to our notebooks. During the recess we sneaked to see what was so interesting. Turns out it was a game called Civilization (1991). We didn't know any English back then and couldn't understand anything, but obviously it was a great game. I tried to acquire a demo, but only got some slide-set like non-playable introduction thing. Back then there was no "World Wide Web" to download games from.
Fast forward a few years to 1996, and Civilization II was published. It …

Greetings, Sid Meier's Civilization fans!
In the days of ancient civilizations, videogame information was shared in the form of manuals printed on clay tablets or hieroglyphics on papyrus scrolls. Then later, monks would sit at desks and write out videogame facts until the printing press was invented. And now, we are in a new era, where videogame information lives on the Internet, and thousands of players like you can add or edit or change or annotate information on Civ.
Civ fans are, without a doubt, the best teachers and experts on how to play Civilization. This project with Wikia represents a chance for you, the real experts at Civ, to share your knowledge with each other, new players, and with the world. This is the Great Library or Nat…
I thoroughly enjoyed playing Alpha Centauri when it first came out, and again at times over the years. I even made a wikia for just that game years ago, and then recently merged it with this wikia after being told this would be the official wikia for the new game. I am really looking forward to Beyond Earth, the videos I see of gameplay, and information I read about it, making it seem rather desirable to play. Dream Focus 02:59, September 6, 2014 (UTC)
We have some exciting updates for the entire Civilization community! The core admin team and Wikia have been working together for the past few months to create a groundbreaking partnership with 2K Games and Firaxis. Happy to announce that this partnership is now up and running, we want to fill everyone in on what this will mean for the Civilization Wiki.
First it's important to note that the admin team here on the wiki isn't changing. We may promote some additional admins at some point, but they'll come from the community as always. The wiki will also stay welcoming to the unofficial related games such as C-evo. The 2K and Firaxis teams are being encouraged to join the community here to edit and add their knowledge. Wikia will be working to…
While waiting for Civilization: Beyond Earth the members of this wiki have been keeping busy with the other games. Recently articles about Civilization Revolution 2 units, buildings and technologies were created. User:Exitwound 45 has been doing a splendid job adding articles about the original Civilization and currently about Civilization III. Keep up the good work everyone!
Firaxis Games will host a live video broadcast about Civilization: Beyond Earth tomorrow, August 21, at 6pm UTC (11am PDT / 2pm EDT / 7pm BST). The broadcast takes place at Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/firaxisgames/ The topic of the broadcast is the seeded start, i.e. when at the beginning of the game you get to choose what was put into your spaceship when it left the Earth.
They'll keep the recording available for watching later if you miss the live broadcast. While waiting for this one, you may want to check out the previous recording from two weeks ago, They're Not Barbarians!, which is all about the aliens!
The Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Wiki is being merged with this wiki! User:Dream Focus is the founder of the SMAC wiki and is now our newest admin here. We are very excited and believe that the communities of both wikis have a lot to gain from this merger. :) Discuss the merger at Forum:Alpha Centauri merger.
Hello everyone, in an effort to make the wiki easier to navigate and more readable, we're planning to enact a few policies on article contents.
Please make your voice heard if they look troublesome to you!

Big news, Civ fans! 2K and Firaxis Games have announced a slew of details regarding the upcoming Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, including its release date: October 24th, 2014.
The companies also announced that gamers who preorder the title will receive the Exoplanets Map Pack, featuring the following original maps:
- Kepler 186f: This lush forest planet is one of the oldest known Earth-like planets
- Rigil Khantoris Bb: Orbiting the closest star to our solar system, the historical records of this arid continental planet’s settlement are well-preserved
- Tau Ceti d: This planet of seas and archipelagos features a booming biodiversity and a wealth of resources
- Mu Arae f: Tidally locked in orbit around a weak star, the southern hemisphere of th…
I discussed the wiki categorization with Becer and as a result wrote down an improved set of guidelines for using categories. They can be found from the Civilization:Community Portal along with the other guidelines. In a nutshell categories should be added using templates, but please read the full instructions and let me know if you have any questions.
I've created an overview page Combat and a couple of game-specific articles derived from it. There was already a Combat (Civ5). Players familiar with other games are most welcome to create game-specific articles or improve what's written.

Dear internets! A while back the Humble Bundle organized a Humble Sid Meier Bundle from where I acquired some Sid Meier games that I didn't already have, as well as extra copies of Civilization V, Civilization V: Gods and Kings and Civilization V: Brave New World. So as I already have the aforementioned game and the DLCs, I've decided to just give them away. Let's make it simple: first come, first served. In the comments section of this post, shout the name of the game or DLC that you want, and be the first one to do so, and I'll send you a Steam gift code for it within the next day or two.
So, up for grabs:
- Civilization V
- Civilization V: Gods and Kings
- Civilization V: Brave New World
Who wants what? To spread the joy, I'll distribute these to three diffe…
Hello everyone, Batrada recently suggested that we turn on the Live Chat feature for this wiki and I think it's a great idea. I'd just like to know what, if anything, others have to say about the idea before actually doing it.

Having revised all of the Civilization V leader and civilization pages for grammar, style, and complete Civilopedia entries and done the same for almost all of the unit, building, and technology pages, I've started adding more detailed descriptions to the pages of the Civilization IV leaders. These descriptions will include a General Info section with unique units, unique buildings, starting technologies, musical theme (if known), and some historical and in-game tidbits about the leader, an AI Behaviors and a Civilopedia Entry section with information taken from http://www.civilization.org.pl/civilopedia/index.php , and a Trivia section (if applicable). If anyone has any further suggestions for sections to add, don't hesitate to share them.
Greetings Civilization Community,
Wikia is excited to announce our E3 2014 coverage. All week long, Wikia and several Wikia Stars will be representing you the fans at the most exciting video game show in the world. We want to include you every step of the way, starting with bringing your fan questions to the show along with us. What are you excited to see most at E3? If we get a chance to speak to the developers and publishers of your favorite games, what do you want us to ask them? We can't promise we will be able to ask all of your questions, but we will do our best to get you heard by the creators themselves. Let us know your questions in the comments below and be sure to let us know what you want to see most at this year's E3.
Exciting news! Firaxis has just announced a new Civ game: Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth! The game is a spiritual successor to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and will be published in autumn 2014. It takes place in an alien planet when the mankind starts settling the space. PC Gamer has an in-depth interview with the designer duo David McDonough and Will Miller. The game has several new concepts, such as a technology web instead of a technology tree, and factions and affinities instead of civilizations in the traditional sense.

For all those who may be curious, my current agenda is to make sure that all of the relevant Civilization V entries include information taken verbatim from Civilopedia. The site from which I've been getting my information is as follows:
To this end, I have also been editing or reverting any changes to these entries other than grammatical or punctuation fixes so that they will be fully consistent with the information given in Civilopedia. If it's acceptable to edit the entries based on current events, please let me know and I'll let the changes stand.
Calling out to all Wikians, Wikia has secured an exciting opportunity to participate in an interview with the one and only, Sid Meier. Meier is a programmer, designer and producer of several popular strategy video games and simulation video games.
Meier is also the Director of Creative Development of Firaxis Games. He has helped develop a variety of successful titles, including Ace Patrol, Pirates!, and Alpha Centauri.
UPDATE: Sid Meier has answered your questions! Read his responses in the Answers Blog Post!
What has civilization done for me? Well a lot actually. Besides providing hours and hours of entertainment (according to steamI'm now up to 326 hours in Civ 5, not to mention the countless hours I spent playing Civ 2- 4 before the advent of steam) Civ has helped decide the course of my life. I sometimes sarcastically claim that everything I know about religion and history I learned from video games. But the more I look at this statement the more I realize how true it is. Now Civ alone doesn't deserve all the credit many other excellent games based in history helped me too, but the Civilization series is by far the most important. I have spent a lot of time browsing the civilopedia, not only to improve my game but to learn a lot about the t…
For all fans of the new Civilization 5 expansion, there's a new patch out, and its changes are exciting!
[all changes here]
And here is a summary of the changes:
- Three new Pantheon effects have been added:
- Earth Mother - +1 Faith from Copper, Iron, and Salt.
- God King - 1 Culture, Faith, Gold, Production, and Science from the Palace
- Sun God: +1 Food from Bananas, Citrus, and Wheat
- Three new City-States have been added.
- Warmongering effect (the diplomatic penalty where others consider you a Warmonger due to your conquests) has been improved - it now has 4 different levels, and improved tooltips to help you determine the future consequences of your actions;
- AI improvements across the board - from battle tactics to Trading
- Further benefits from Tourism a…
A few days ago a new hotfix for Civilization V went live. For example, several achievements were fixed, including the problem that you couldn't get any victory related achievements in Vanilla or Gods & Kings.
The long anticipated expansion for Civ 5 has been released creating the World Congress, trade routes, new civs, new scenarios, and a tourism victory. What I find the most intresting is the Archaeologist and Tourism factors, in which you can dominate the world with brushes and canvas rather than guns and bullets.

Currently in beta, [Multiplayer Robot (GMR)] aims to make Civ 5 multiplayer easier to organise, by removing the need for all players to be logged in at the same time. Instead, the client uses the game’s hotseat mode, automatically swapping the save file between players. The service also offers other improvements to the hotseat mode, by allowing players to leave an in-progress game, customise the turn-timer, and even use mods.
I'm really enjoying the expansion so far. But there's some kinda bug where sometimes if you make a caravan it'll just vanish as soon as it finishes. I know bugs are to be expected, but I'm really surprised this hasn't gotten a hotfix yet.
The traditional Steam Summer Sale is on again, with many Civilization titles in sale.
Anybody want to join me in Standardizing the Civ Rev portion of the wikia? it is in disarray, with unneeded info, and in complete chaos. Uncategorized, no images, not everything has a page etc. I know civ rev is a dead game, but if somebody needs info we need to be there for them!
Brave New World, the second official expansion pack for Civilization V, brings forth plenty of exciting changes to the popular turn-based strategy series. Nine new Civilizations have been added, eight new Wonders, two new scenarios including the American Civil War and Scramble for Africa, trade routes, ideologies, and a World Congress which helps expand the diplomatic aspect of the game. The expansion pack also expands upon all other added mechanics from the first expansion pack, Gods & Kings
The game released today and the reviews are in! Will you be purchasing the new expansion? What do you think of the new features and the gameplay tweaks? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
No less-than-middling reviews for Civilization V: Brave New W…
Special:WikiStats shows record numbers of registered editors last month: 41 in total, with a record 14 making more than 5 edits.
Best previous figures were in June 2012: 34 and 12 respectively.
If we can keep it up and reach 5,000 articles we can be back on the list of Wikia's biggest wikis. (We were on it briefly before the cutoff was raised from 2,500.) Plenty of articles just waiting to be started - see Special:WantedPages: a few of those should be redirects but most deserve separate articles.
Can someone show me how to put the template Template:Userbox on? It's confusing.
For some reason I can't play Civ 5 in my 8 years old cranky computer, so I play Civ 4 instead and enjoy it as much as the days it was released! Cheers.Yoshida Keiji (talk) 02:41, May 25, 2013 (UTC)
Here are more possible Civ. VI leaders....

Thank you for taking the time to check my profile out. It's not much but I care about articles more than profiles.
Once again thanks.
Brave New World is announced, they added Pedro II of Brazil as new civ. Only Brazil (and DLC Inca) in Latin America? I wish they added Che of Argentine and Bolivar of Gran Colombia. So there will be more powerful nations from South America. It would be nice to see Che (and Gandhi) in a game.
Sid Meier's Civilization® V: Brave New World is the second expansion pack for Civilization V - the critically acclaimed 2010 PC Game of the Year. This new expansion provides enhanced depth and replayability through the introduction of international trade and a focus on culture and diplomacy. Your influence around the world will be impacted by creating Great Works, choosing an ideology for your people and proposing global resolutions in the World Congress. Finally! I have finally found a wiki in need! I started out working on the CreepyPasta Wiki, but that turned foul really fast. so then I started working out where wikis with info might need help. no luck for a couple months. Hopefully, I can help out the most here then in the other wikis. So hello, civ fans!
The answer to CivWorld? http://en.waysofhistory.com/landing is where you land after hyperlinking from a Facebook advertisement.
It looks like an excellent rival to Sid Meier's version. Check out its "Encyclopedia": http://en1.waysofhistory.com/help

I haven't gone over every civilization and the possible leaders, but I have a few suggestions.....
Each civilization will have 3 different leaders for the different eras. One of the earliest of the leaders of the civilization will lead in the Ancient and Classical era, a leader from the civilization's middle period will lead in the Medieval and Renaissance eras, and one of the latest (or last) leaders from that civilization will lead in the Industrial, Modern, and, if added, Future eras. I am basing Civ VI after its predecessor, Civ V. Here's some of my ideas...
Ancient and Classical eras- George Washington
Medieval and Renaissance eras- Abraham Lincoln
Industrial, Modern, and Future eras- Franklin D. Roosevelt
Ancient and Classica…
