Boudhanath is a Modern Age wonder in Civilization VII. It is associated with the Nepalese civilization and must be built on a Tropical tile adjacent to a Mountain.

Strategy[]

The current effect of Boudhanath is underwhelming. By the Modern Age, relationships with other leaders polarize rapidly, and a +20 relationship increase (akin to a "friendly greeting" when first meeting a new civ) is miniscule compared to other factors. Larger factors, such as shared or opposing Ideologies or an AI leader perceiving that you're going for a certain type of victory, will dominate the overall relationship values to the tune of hundreds of points on higher difficulty levels.

As a result, the relationship change won't be enough for a hostile leader to like you, and is barely a noticeable improvement for leaders with whom you already have good relations. The raw Influence Influence Boudhanath provides is less than that of Weiyang Palace, which is available in the Antiquity Age. Generously speaking, it grants a one-time bonus of 20 relationship per leader in a very limited context.

Civilopedia entry[]

Boudhanath refers to the district surrounding the Boudha Stupa, the central Buddhist monument of Nepal (an otherwise predominately Hindu country). It is a Buddhist enclave in the city, home to a community of monasteries and worship sites, and its central stupa with its white dome and twin eyes is a symbol of the city and of Nepal in general.

According to legend, the stupa was built by a daughter of Indra, who, cast out of the heavens, sought to build a monument to replenish her own store of merit. From here, the legend has it that Buddhist missionaries set out to teach the dharma northwards and upwards, into the icy peaks and Tibetan plateau where, indeed, most of Nepal’s Buddhists now live.
