"Broadway is a main artery of New York cultural life - the hardened artery."

Game Info[]

  • A free Great Musician appears near the city where the Wonder was built.
  • Contains 3 slots for Great Works of Music which provide +3 theming bonus, if you fill the slots with Great Works of Music from the same civilization and the same era.

Strategy[]

One of the new Tourism Tourism-oriented Wonders, the Broadway is one of only two which provides a Theming Bonus for Great Works of Music (the other one being the Sydney Opera House). Activating the bonus is a bit tricky, though, because all GWM have to be from the same civilization and the same era. Since it's next to impossible to trade for three GWM of the same era with another player, they would have to be your own. This means that when you plan on building the Wonder, you should calculate very well the use of your Great Musicians, so that you can have 2 within the same era - their Great Works, along with the one of the free Great Musician which appears at completion of the Wonder, will be able to activate Broadway's bonus.

It is also possible, if Aesthetics policies are complete and Faith Faith output is strong, to purchase the required Great Musicians without requiring such careful planning.

Civilopedia entry[]

Broadway is a 15-mile long street running through Manhattan and The Bronx in New York City. Although most of the thoroughfare is lined with offices, businesses and apartment complexes, it is best known for the middle section between 42nd and 53rd Streets dubbed the "Great White Way" - the theater district. Commencing in the mid-1800s a number of theaters opened on Broadway. In 1880 AD a stretch between Madison and Union squares was illuminated with arc lamps, making it one of the first electrically lit streets in the United States. Spurred by growing American wealth and cultural aspirations, the theaters made it a mecca of popular entertainment. By 1900 some 20 theaters had opened along this stretch, and so bright were their electric billboards that it became the Great White Way. In 1925, at peak there were 80 theaters along Broadway, specializing in lavish productions, primarily revues and musicals.
