Bugs are coding mistakes that cause errors during gameplay.
Known bugs for Civilization II include:
Vanilla[]
Gameplay[]
- In the original game, all cities after #127 (including those controlled by the AI) do not assign produced units a home city. Instead, these units—like those provided by distant villages—are labelled
NONE
. They therefore incur no support cost or unrest when deployed away from the city, negating most of the disadvantages of republican and democratic governments. This bug was fixed by the time of the 2.42 patch. - Modding the construction order of Barbarian cities can cause the game to crash.
Multiplayer Gold Edition[]
Engine[]
- AI attitude towards the player civ is forced to maximum hostility every turn once contacted. [1] This error carries over into Test of Time.[2]
Graphics[]
- The French leader portraits were replaced with the Greek portraits in mk.dll. This error carries into Test of Time.[3]
- The furthest wall in the Throne Room was replaced by the second level in pv.dll. This error carries into Test of Time.[3]

Notes[]
- ↑ Although sometimes known as the "aggression bug", it does not alter the AI's aggressiveness.
- ↑ Several custom patches have been made to address this. The CIV2UIA mod by FoxAhead, incorporating previous work by deeves[1], is optimal, as the earlier EXE patch by Skyer1[2] may introduce additional errors.[3]
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 A fan-made patch is available for both MGE[4] and ToT[5].
