Sid Meier's CivNet (called CivNet for short) was released in 1995 and was a remake of the original Civilization with added multiplayer, an in-game world editor, custom leaders and civilizations, simultaneous turns, improved graphics and sound, and support for Windows 95/3.1. Gameplay was almost identical to the original game. There were several methods of multiplayer, including LAN, primitive Internet play, hotseat, modem, and direct serial link.

There were 14 civilization options, being Aztec, Babylonian, English, Russian, Zulu, French, German, Roman, Greek, American, Indian, Chinese, Mongolian and Egyptian.
