A civil war is a game mechanic which splits a large civilization into two different nations if its capital city is captured.
Much of the information here comes from forum posts on CivFanatics and the Apolyton Civilization Site.[1][2][3]
Conditions that trigger civil war[]
A Civilization may fall into Civil War if its capital falls and:
- It is conquered by a less powerful civilization or barbarians
- The total number of Civilizations is less than 7
- ?
Cities that are distant from the original capital are more likely to be part of the new Civilization than cities that are closer.
