Sid Meier's Civilization VII (called Civilization VII or Civ7 for short) is a turn-based strategy and 4X game in the Civilization franchise that was announced at Summer Game Fest 2024 on June 7, 2024. The game is set to be released on February 11, 2025.[1][2]
Completely new features[]
These features in Civilization VII have not existed in any game in Civilization series before:
- Each civilization is bound to an age. When age transition occurs, the player must change their civilization, similar to Humankind.
- There are 3 ages in the game - Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Near the end of each era there will be a crisis, forcing the player to add negative policies.
- There is new yield type - Influence, which is used to conduct diplomacy with other civilizations.
- Naval units are now navigable to cross in some rivers.
Differences from Civilization VI[]
- Leaders are not bound to specific civilizations, being able to lead any civilization, and gain additional attributes throughout the game.
- There are no worker/builder units. Tile improvements are built by the city and occupy rural tiles. Roads can automatically be built by settlements.
- Settlers are now separate units. The first civilian unit to be founded the player's capital called Founder. Subsequent units can create Settlers in later, and so on.
- Districts have been replaced by urban tiles which must be placed adjacent to other urban tiles. These can be specialised based on the buildings built in them.
- Barbarians and City-states are replaced by Independent Powers.
- New settlements begin as Towns which provide gold instead of production. They can be upgraded into Cities.
- Some technologies and civics can be researched deeper by theirs Mastery.
- Units no longer gain XP and receive promotions, except for new Commander units.
- Selected wonders are now associating by Civilization instead of chosen to build by AI player.
