Coliseum is a city improvement in Civilization: Call to Power.
Effect[]
The Coliseum raises the happiness of the city's people by 2, entertaining them with chariot races, gladiatorial combat, and the occasional Christian fed to the lions.
Great Library entry[]
The Coliseum was a uniquely Roman invention designed for managing the unruly mobs of Rome and other large cities. To discourage unhappy inhabitants from rioting, the government provided the people with free Coliseum tickets and with free bread (at least in Rome after the first century AD). These bribes pacified the Roman empire - temporarily.
