If humanity were to colonize space it would make sense to make a choice of what kind of people to bring. This is reflected in the 'Choose Colonists'-screen, where we get several options:
Colonists | Ability | |
---|---|---|
Scientists | +2 Science in every city | |
Refugees | +2 Food in every city | |
Aristocrats | +4 Energy in every city | |
Engineers | +2 Production in every city | |
Artists | +2 Culture in every city (3 in Base BE) |
Now there is great debate whether or not it is wise to double-down here (for instance PAC that already has production and improvement bonuses taking Engineers), however if you do, it is recommended that you do this from a well thought-out strategy, as that choice makes your civ vulnerable in other areas. A safer choice as beginner is to get something you might struggle to get otherwise.
Scientists: is straightup a science-boost, and lets you get those early techs a bit faster.
Refugees: also quite simple, as it will boost your growth in all cities. However as with PAU above, you need to mind your Health a bit more.
Aristocrats: is an interesting choice, Energy is the currency in the game and is used to support buildings, improvements and units, but can be used to purchase instead of producing things. Good for a commerce game. Paired with +1 Health lets your cities grow a bit bigger.
Engineers: also simple as it produces everything a bit faster.
Artists: that culture boost starts up your Virtues from the get-go, so pretty good. And again paired with Health gives more growth-potential.
