Issuing a demand is a way for a Civilization to request another Civilization to surrender its gold, maps, or to perform an action. With an embassy, a Civilization may also demand Advances. When a Civilization acquiesces to a demand and completes the act requested, a 5-turn peace treaty begins between the two Civilizations.

While history is replete with tales of war, another story travels through the politics of man: the tale of threat. From the Roman intimidation of its allies, to the Soviet Union's domination of the Warsaw Pact, to the coercive strength often exercised by the United States, powerful nations have often made demands of those in weaker positions, using the threat of implied war or disfavor to encourage compliance.
