Disasters occur in your cities randomly, and can be prevented by certain buildings.
- Pirate attack: Some gold is stolen from your treasury. Prevented by Barracks. This can occur if your city is located next to an Ocean tile.
- Flood: Some population is lost. Prevented by City Walls. This can occur if your city is located on or next to a River tile.
- 25% of the city population is lost.
- Fire: A random building is destroyed. Prevented by Aqueduct.
- Plague: Some population is lost. Prevented by Aqueduct or Medicine.
- 25% of the city population is lost.
- Famine: Some population is lost. Prevented by Granary.
- 33% of the city population is lost.
- Volcano: A random building is destroyed. Prevented by Temple. This can occur if your city is located on or next to a Mountain tile.
- 33% of the city population is lost.
- Earthquake: A random building is destroyed. Cannot be prevented. This can occur if your city is located next to a Hill tile.
- Meltdown: A random square around the city becomes polluted. This is triggered by a Nuclear Plant, usually when the city is in civil disorder.
