Civilopedia entry[]

An entrepot is a space in which goods are stored en route to their final destination. Deriving from the Latin “inter” (between) and “positum” (position), entrepots were historically located in port cities or major crossroads. As long-distance trade developed in the modern era, merchants needed places to stop along the way to rest and recharge for the journey ahead or to sell their merchandise to other vendors to relieve the burden of traveling the entire arduous route. Entrepots also benefited their local regions by acting as storehouses for a wide variety of goods, reducing the risk of fluctuation in both supply and price.
