Back to Civilization III

A game mode is a setup option that adds a twist to the standard Civilization III experience. Game modes alter the base game's ruleset and may change the visual style of the game or include additional features such as units, buildings, and improvements.

Game Modes[]

Game Modes are included like scenarios, their main limitation is that only one such mod can be opened at a time and it will only use the expansion rules for which it was created.

Mod Description Expansion
The Ancient Mediterranean The Ancient Mediterranean MOD lets you replay the Rise of Rome, the Punic Wars, Alexander's conquest or the Gothic invasion. Play as Rome, Carthage, Troy, Persia, Goths, Iberia, Egypt, Nubia and many more. From 8.000 BC to 600 A.D - by Jan van der Crabben - PLEASE NOTE: This version of the mod has had most graphics removed - if you want to add in the graphics and unit animations, etc, please check out www.civ3.com for the Ancient Mediterranean mod patch. Play the World
The Balancer 3.1 XP We have taken the best things about Civilization III and enhanced upon them. We don't wish to redefine the game, just make it better and fill in some gaps. Mainly we added to the civilization traits concept by making trait specific buildings. We added a lot of stuff to the end of the modern era to make that era more appealing to get to. Naval units are changed a bit to allow for more exciting naval combat. As well as a host of other changes. Play the World
Double Your Pleasure Double Your Pleasure adds 45 Improvements, 51 Wonders, 94 Techs, 64 Units, 20 Resources, 7 Government Types, and countless rule changes. See the DypReadme.txt in the Double Your Pleasure folder for more info. And check out the Double Your Pleasure website at http://civ3.bernskov.com for Updates, Add-ons and Strategy Tips. PLEASE NOTE: This version of the mod had most graphics removed - to get the graphics, please find the mod patch at www.civ3.com or civ3.bernskov.com. Play the World
BTM Basic This mod was developed by the CivIII PtW beta test team in order to improve strategic depth and balance (especially in multiplayer games) while making as few changes as possible to the default rules. An Advanced version of this mod, which includes additional enhancements and more significant rules changes, is available from the Civ3 website at http://www.civ3.com/mods.cfm. We hope you have as much fun playing these mods as we had designing and arguing about it. Play the World

Patch suggestion MOD by player1 - v1.01 Why "patch suggestion"? Simple. These are the changes that if added to original Civ3 rules (based on v1.04f PtW patch) would improve game balance and fun. I tried using the conservative concept of not changing the rules too much, if not necessary, in order to keep original Civ3 flavor. I hope that players of this MOD will find game more fun and interesting. Play the World
Sn00py's Terrain - Version 4.1 This scenario changes the map graphics to be more detailed and easier to identify. The rules have not been changed. I'd like to thank Apolyton.com and CivFanatics.com for always trying extra hard to hold my work on their servers. I'd also like to thank Kai Fiebach from Civ3.de who helped me to arrange my work and bring it to PTW. Daniel (aka Sn00py, Icedan) Knowles Play the World

Sn00py's Terrain - Version 4.1x (selection) This scenario changes the map graphics to be more detailed and easier to identify. The rules have not been changed. Sn00py, Icedan) Knowles s note: Sn00py is a real artist and he creates incredible artwork for Civ3. This is a personal "best of" collection from his graphic sets V1.0 to V4.1, differences to 4.1: "square" irrigation (1.0), "embedded" rivers (1.0), "moved" water (2.0) Kai "ColdFever" Fiebach, civ3.de Play the World
