Game Info[]

A Great Person, specialized in Production Production.

  • Actions:
    • Construct a Manufactory (Great Tile improvement)
    • Hurry Production (Adds extra Production Production to a city's current effort.)

The unit is expended after performing either of these actions.

Strategy[]

The Great Engineer has the ability to Hurry Production, which instantly adds a vast number of Production Production points to the item at the front of a city's production queue. This is usually enough to finish all but the most massive wonders in just one turn. Note, however, that projects (such as the Manhattan Project or the Apollo Program) cannot be hurried with a Great Engineer.

Note that in order to use Hurry Production the Engineer needs to be inside a city. So, you need to move it to the precise city where you want to build whatever it is you're trying to hurry.

The Manufactory tile improvement is also a long-term benefit for a specific city's Production Production capabilities. One or two well-placed Manufactories can quickly turn cities into troop training centers or wonder production facilities.

There are many different ways to obtain "free" Great Engineers. Purchasing a Great Engineer with Faith Faith does not push back the spawning pool (although it increases the amount of Faith Faith for future Great Engineer purchases), whereas all the following do:

Formula[]

The amount of Production Production of a Great Engineer on Normal speed is calculated using the formula[1]

300 + (30 * city population)

So in a city with a 20xPopulation5 Population of 1 the Engineer only generates 330 Production Production, while in a size 15 city it generates 750 Production Production.

For Quick speed, the formula is

200 + (20 * city population)

For Epic speed it is

450 + (45 * city population)

and for Marathon speed it is

900 + (90 * city population)

Civilopedia entry[]

"Great Engineers" are the men and women who get things done. They construct the monuments, the roads, the information networks that improve the lives of those around them. They invent new processes for building high-rises or rolling steel; they dig canals; they irrigate deserts. They keep a civilization moving forward.
