The Hanging Gardens - or the Tradition Wonder, as we might dub it in Brave New World - greatly helps the Population5 Population growth in this city. This is very valuable in the early game, when population growth is your main means of progress. Furthermore, the free Garden ignores terrain requirements and can grant the Great Person generation bonus to a large city that could not have had it otherwise.

This is very valuable in the early game, when population growth is your main means of progress. Historical Info

The Hanging Gardens were a distinctive feature of ancient Babylon. They were a great source of pride to the people, and were often described in accounts written by visitors to the city. Possibly built by King Nebuchadnezzar II in 600 BC, the gardens were an ascending series of tiered platforms (not unlike a ziggurat) constructed of mud bricks and containing all manner of trees, shrubs, and vines. From a distance the gardens were said to look like a large green mountain rising from the center of the city.
