Breaking treaties or committing atrocities damages your integrity rating. This determines whether other factions will trust you or not in forming treaties or pacts with you. Even if a faction forced you to switch sides from their enemy to their side, under threat of vendetta against you, your integrity still goes down and even they will hold that against you.
