Land units (sometimes called ground units) are a class of unit that can travel only on land unless transported by air units or naval units. Normally they can step from any land tile to any of the eight (or, for games that use hexagonal tiles, six) adjacent land tiles, and naval units can cross that point the other way between water tiles.
