The following are lists of units in Civilization VI and its expansions.

By era   By class   Scenario-specific units

Combat[]

All military units can initiate combat and defend. Land military units occupy the land combat layer in the game, while naval military units occupy the naval combat layer and air units occupy two distinct air layers: an air combat layer and aerodrome layer. Within each combat layer, only one unit can occupy each tile. When embarked, land combat units occupy an embarked layer along with civilian and support units. They cannot initiate attacks against naval units or other embarked units while embarked but can defend. Nuclear weapons cannot be deployed as military units and operate uniquely.

Support Units[]

Support units can be destroyed by hostile enemy units when undefended by military units. Additionally, some military units can use priority targeting to damage support units even when they are defended by a military unit.

In the base game and Rise and Fall, Battering Rams upgrade directly to Medics. Siege Towers are unlocked with Construction in the Classical Era.

In Gathering Storm, Battering Rams upgrade into Siege Towers. Siege Towers are unlocked with Machinery in the Medieval Era. The Gathering Storm upgrade paths and eras are shown below.

Religious Units[]

Offensive religious units can initiate theological combat with all religious units, while defensive units can only defend in theological combat. Enemy military units can use the Condemn Heretic action when occupying the same tile to eliminate the unit and reduce that religion's pressure in nearby cities. With the World Congress in Gathering Storm, any civilization can condemn religious units if their religion is the target of Outcome B for the World Religion Resolution.

Civilian Units[]

Settlers and Builders can be captured by hostile military units. All other civilian units will retreat to the nearest city when a hostile military unit enters the same tile. While embarked, civilian units occupy the same embarked layer as land military and support units. Traders can be plundered by hostile military units standing on the same tile. Spies do not interact with units of other types or classes.
