Back to Challenge of the month (Civ6)
Live Yongle Reaction is the ninth challenge of the month in Civilization VI, running from July 16 to August 14, 2024.
Intro[]
During this Challenge of the Month, you can score points for Team Culture or Team Science by achieving either victory type as Yongle. Will you be the hero of artisans and tourists everywhere by demonstrating the timeless value of Culture? Or would you rather champion the technological advancements and scholarly pursuits of Science? Strategy[]
Your opponents in this challenge are three other Yongles, and Online speed makes for a fast-paced game. Luckily, Yongle is great at getting quick starts, so you may be able to avoid entering the Classical Era in a Dark Age (or earn a Heroic Age in the Medieval Era if you do). Train a Scout and 1-2 Slingers to explore the map and earn some Era Score, and complete the Lijia (Faith) project so you can found the Religious Settlements pantheon. If one of your opponents beats you to it, Divine Spark makes a good backup option. Appoint Magnus, give him Provision, and assign him to the city in which you plan on training or purchasing all your Settlers, then send them to settle near natural wonders and/or resources.
Once you've founded your first few cities, decide whether you're going to pursue a Cultural or Science Victory and develop them accordingly. The Oracle is a wonder you should try to build no matter which path you're following; if you're aiming for a Science Victory, you should try for the Great Library, Oxford University, and possibly the Amundsen-Scott Research Station as well. Run Lijia (Food) projects in newly-founded cities to help them grow and Lijia (Gold) projects in larger, well-established cities to earn Gold that you can use to buy buildings. Merchant Republic and Democracy are good governments to choose for the Gold bonus and discount on Gold purchases, respectively; Communism is also a fine choice if you're seeking a Science Victory. If you're trying for a Cultural Victory, save your Faith to purchase Naturalists and Rock Bands as you make your final sprint in the later eras.
If you build a strong foundation, you should be able to win either type of victory with relative ease. Just be forewarned that on Emperor difficulty, you'll probably have to use your Spies against and/or go to war with your opponents to stop them from getting insurmountable leads.
