Back to List of city-states in Civ6
Marakanda is a militaristic city-state from the Conquests of Alexander scenario in Civilization VI. It is able to produce the Saka Horse Archer.
Strategy[]
Because the player cannot obtain
Envoys in Conquests of Alexander, it is not possible to interact with Marakanda diplomatically. As such, the city-state does not provide any
Envoy or Suzerain bonuses.
Civilopedia entry[]
Known to the Macedones as Maracanda (and in the modern times as the Uzbek city of Samarkand), the capital of Persia’s Sogdian satrapy was conquered by Alexander the Great in 329 BCE. Revitalized by its new rulers, Markand was home-away-from-home to Alexander’s forces while he put down a Sogdian rebellion. Markand is where Alexander declared his coming invasion of India. It was also where he hurled a spear through Cleitus the Black, one of his generals, on the heels of a drunken dispute. Poor luck for both Cleitus and India.
Trivia[]
- Marakanda's city-state symbol is a deer with spiral antlers that gallops to the right, resembling the Deer Plaque, one of the most famous examples of Scythian art. It shares this symbol with Scythia in the standard game.
