Luxury resource. Adds 15% Production when building Ancient/Classical Era wonders (all wonders in vanilla Civilization V and Gods & Kings) in the city where it is worked.

Strategy

Marble is a unique luxury resource in that besides its normal bonuses, it also provides a boost to wonder construction in the Ancient and Classical Era (or, prior to Brave New World, all eras). Its improvement, the Quarry, gives a hefty Production bonus, and it also enables the nearby city to build the Stone Works, a bonus building which adds additional Production bonuses to both the city and the tile.

All this makes Marble a precious resource - try to access it ASAP by researching Masonry early on, then use its unique bonus to gain the upper hand in early game wonder construction! Of course, you'll need quite a bit of luck for that - if you don't have Marble near your starting location, you may not be able to make use of it in time.

Marble is a beautiful rock highly prized as a building material and by artists for sculpting. Marble comes in a variety of colors and shades, sometimes mono-colored and sometimes with veins and pockets of many different colors within. Many of the most beautiful structures in the world - including the Taj Mahal, for one - are constructed of marble, as are the greatest sculptures of antiquity.
