Great Library entry[]
Medicine took a decisive step forward with the rise of classical education. In 1543, renowned anatomist Andreas Vesalius' 'De Humani Corporus Fabrica" refuted the conventionally accepted Greek legacy of comparative anatomy, in which the anatomy of other animals was used to infer the human anatomy. In response, doctors and scientists tailored medical procedures and remedies specifically for humans, making massive advances in the understanding of physiology and disease.
