Civilopedia entry[]
A megalith, from the Greek “megas” (large) and “lithos” (stone), is a prehistoric structure made from one or more huge boulders. Common types of megaliths include a single standing stone such as the menhir or monolith, dolmens made of two upright stones supporting a third horizontal stone to look like a table, or more complex formations such as stone circles and cyclopean walls. These creations are found across the world. In ages of limited technology, they would have required significant communal cooperation to move and configure. Some megaliths contain burials, while others likely hosted religious or social rituals. Nevertheless, the exact purpose of many megaliths remains unknown, lost to the passage of millennia.
