Civ5 templates and pictures and things Edit

I've read your interesting long message. Might have been better directed to ZeroOne, who knows a lot about Civ4 and Civ5 as he was a leading light in the separate wikis. I know only what I've read about those games. I'll move your message to a forum and ask him to look at it.

Your level of enthusiasm and expertise makes me fairly confident that you could be entrusted with some more powers, as you requested. See whether Civilization:Requests for adminship covers it, or maybe a similar page. (But don't turn out to be a deletionist!!! Some of us want this wiki to get back onto the Big Wikis page.)

Page name standards Edit

Please find and observe standards before renaming pages. Sentence case is the Wikia and Wikipedia standard, which we depart from in only extreme situations. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:57, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

Our most "wanted" article Edit

Combat (Civ5)‏‎ has 135 links pointing to it. You're obviously the best person to write it! (Or maybe somebody thoughtlessly deleted it without checking "What links here"?? So it might just need restoring. I haven't checked.) -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 00:44, January 26, 2013 (UTC)

I did have my eye on it. The links are mostly from the combat strength icon template that is itself present on every unit's page. This being said once created it could probably be linked from a game concepts page so people can actually read it. --Becer (talk) 00:48, January 26, 2013 (UTC)

Wikia Game Guide App Edit

Hi! Since you obviously have more time to work on this wiki than I do, would you mind checking this out: the Wikia Mobile Game Guides. By following these instructions and starting here you are supposed to be able to modify how this wiki appears in the mobile app. :) —ZeroOne (talk / @) 19:29, January 27, 2013 (UTC)

Better things to do Edit

You must have a copy of Civ2. I hadn't noticed that Civ2 spells "Krakow" with an accent. I hope you're sure, because I can't check at present. But you have so many better things to do, which you seem to be doing very well. Fiddling with links that make no difference to the appearance of any article should not be a priority.

-- Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:46, February 10, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't suspected tool-assistance, as I've never used AWB myself. We should have a "Tool user" badge for you, but you've reached 2nd place without it! Great work. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 03:29, February 10, 2013 (UTC)

Help:Bots Edit

Bots were very far from my mind when I mentioned badges. The only badges that are obvious to me on this wiki are achievement badges, e.g.:

Becer's Earned Badges (31)

1,380 Achievement points

Ranked #2 on this wiki

If you want a bot flagged (or if the rest of us might want your bot flagged!), how about mentioning it on a new Watercooler page? Other contributors could be very interested even if they haven't any potential tasks for it. I presume you've done what the help page suggests.

Restoring initial "The" Edit looks like a departure from an agreed naming standard. Is it discussed somewhere? -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 21:59, February 13, 2013 (UTC)

Pedro 2 concept art Edit

First of all, I'm using Google Translator because I'm not good at English (I speak Portuguese, I'm Brazilian), so I apologize for the grammatical errors likely.

I tried but not found how to delete one of the photos. How I created my account yesterday and started to use it starting from there I do not have much experience in the matter. I would ask if you could delete the oldest.

Again sorry confusion.

Yeah, I've been playing Civ 5 GK a lot these days, and I decided to contribute a bit to this Wiki by updating the info about GK expansion. Unfortunately, in my first few updates I didn't know how to make a separate GK template (which I figured out later), so I'm afraid I simply changed the whole template, effectively erasing the info for vanilla Civ5.... My mistake. If you could revert those changes, I'm now in a position to do a correct update, with the GK-template :)

Oh, there's only one thing I haven't figured out yet - how do you change the 'Technology of X era' in the upper part of the template? Does it depend on previous classification of the pages (I noticed some general pages for each era, including a list of technologies), or it's a tag? Right now almost all these infos are wrong for the GK templates....

Soltan Gris

P.S. I have an account in Wikia already, in fact I'm one of the admins for the Cities XL Wiki, but I'haven't updated or checked it for ages, and I seem to have forgotten my password. Trying to recover it now.

Yeah, I just figured out the tech costs I've been setting are waaay wrong.... But if it depends on the difficulty, should we set them in the template? I mean, it's gonna be confusing information-wise....

Getting it right about banannasEdit

Part of your analysis from my talk page:

Bananas are always, no exceptions, found on plains. This gives us a base of 1 20xFood5 1 20xProduction5

With a jungle on top it becomes 2 20xFood5 and finally the bananas add another +1 20xFood5 for 3 20xFood5 total.

At this point of you cut down the jungle and are back to 2 20xFood5 [plus 1 20xProduction5 ]. far so good...but then you say:

Building the plantation brings you back to 3 20xFood5, the point where we started from except we used up worker time and hurt our city's growth.

This is simply not true. Building a plantation brings you up to 4 20xFood5, as you would expect, since the plantation provides +2 20xFood5 -1 20xProduction5 . Compare that to the +1 20xFood5 -1 20xProduction5 of a jungle, and you'll expect +1 20xFood5, and this is what I observe in-game, also, we can get +5 20xFood5 if we add the granary improvement in our town.

Note that if the banannas are on a hill, we instead get +3 20xFood5 and +2 20xProduction5 with the granary and a plantation, in this case building the plantation gives us +2 20xProduction5 and -1 20xFood5 instead of +1 20xFood5. Grumbledwarfskin (talk) 04:11, May 25, 2013 (UTC)

You recently removed the comment placed on "Jet Fighter" unit page. According to your summary, the edit was "politcal" and "biased", the edit was neither, it was merely factual information posted to add to the previous contribution of what the model was. Your quick action to remove it only shows me that you are afraid of learning of information that taints the history of the overhyped Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. The edit made was in no way biased or politically influenced, only factual information. Learn before you act, imbecile. 03:09, June 29, 2013 (UTC)

BNW versions Edit

Hey, could you please expand {{ArticleVersionSelector5}} to also show Brave New World as an option? I'm not sure how that template even works, it looks like black magic to me. :) Just asking because I noticed User:Soltan gris1 requested a separate BNW page for social policies here. —ZeroOne (talk / @) 22:18, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

City-state icons Edit

I'm making city-states icon to pretty up the city-states articles. I also think it's pretty useful as I didn't notice this well into my games. They look like this:
Cultured neutral

How do I make these into icons so they can be used as the other stuff? Like Influence (Civ5)?

Lunco (talk) 19:27, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

How do I respons in the appropriate topic? Also, is it possible to influence icon size after the fact? They are a bit big. Lunco (talk) 20:19, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

Look at this, it's beautiful: City-state_(Civ5)#List_of_city-states

Lunco (talk) 20:22, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

Hmm what do you mean by "respond in the appropriate topic"? Also yes, it does look quite nice.
--Becer (talk) 20:26, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

I wasn't sure the message would automatically go under this topic. That's what I meant. Lunco (talk) 20:45, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

Response to MSGEdit

Thanks for the message, I also have some civilizations I came up with myself (Example: Kimeria, Great Britnia.)

How do I make a part of an article a drop down? So it can be hidden and it doesn't clutter the space? Lunco (talk) 19:58, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

Future Events?Edit

Hey there Becer,

Wikia has recently been talking to 2K games and there may be some interest in working together on events or programming. As a Civilization fan, I thought you may be interested in potential opportunities in the future. If so, let me know by leaving a message on my talk page and I'll add you to our contact list!

Ace Patrol Code?Edit

Hey there Becer,

Nothing super special for the Civ community in particular, but we have some free download codes for Sid Meier's latest mobile game, Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies. If you're interested in checking it out, or know someone who is, let me know and I'll toss you a code.

Vandals Edit

Hey there, Soltan Gris said you might be a good person to contact about vandal activity around here. The users in question are:,,, & The first one's been at it steadily for the past 2 weeks now. If there's someone else whose attention I should bring this to, please let me know. Thanks! Knives182 (talk) 00:01, November 18, 2013 (UTC)

You probably want to ban this guy. He's an anon who vandalized a crap-ton of pages, I'm reverting them now.  Toast  Talk  Otters are Fantastic  Grimm Wiki  13:37,12/9/2013

Hi Becer,

I noticed that some images for Civ 5 units are... let's say, not in the standard of other images (that is, they're square and not alfa transparent). For example the Xcom Squad image and the Pathfinder image. I managed to make better, up-to-standard images, but there's the old problem - you can't upload them with the same name as the article they refer to, which means that the site engine will never connect them. So, I was wondering, is there a way to rename images in the Wiki, or if not - of deleting them? I could then just upload the new images with the same name. Soltan Gris 14:25, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

I've also noticed that some images, such as BraveNewWorld5.png, are deleted and have not been replaced.  Toast  Talk  Otters are Fantastic  Grimm Wiki  16:02,12/9/2013

Thanks for the confidence! However, I don't know if I could really contribute as an admin, I tend to be a bit distracted (both by real life work and other stuff)... I've taken some of these functions already in other sites, like (moderator there, not an admin), and I haven't performed my duties for months now, simply got bored of it. While I really enjoy contributing and organising stuff, I can't guarantee I'll be as active as I'm now in couple of months.

So, maybe just stick to editing for now. The images I want to update are:

  • Cargo ship (Civ5).png
  • XCOM Squad (Civ5).png
  • Hotel (Civ5).png

I intend also to change the Pathfinder image, but I may have bungled something there.... I tried to upload my improved image, overwriting the other image in the process, and while this worked for the Unit page (you can see there my new image), it didn't work for some reason for the List of Units page. May be because some sort of conflict arose because of the overwritten file... A thing I discovered while trying to find the file which was working, is this file: . I have no idea why it has this name, and how did someone manage to connect it to the Pathfinder, but the problem might be somewhere there....

So, maybe it's a good Idea to also remove all images connected to the Pathfinder (Civ5), then I'll upload my image again, and everything should work.

By the way, I happened to be online when today's vandalism happened :) I was literally following the bastard as it ravaged the site.... I didn't know what to do, I didn't know there's the option to just undo edits, so I found out the spam link he was using and edited it so it doesn't contain any text. I know it was lame, but couldn't think of anything else at the time (besides I was time-pressed to go out). Soltan Gris 22:01, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

I noticed that you (or someone) has uploaded the new pictures, which look good on the specific page. However, on other pages which use the ... tag we still have the ugly old pics... The one exception is the Hotel (Civ5), which seems to link just fine. Do you have an idea why's that?Soltan Gris 14:07, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Well, that sucks. Not only are the old images there, but they seem a little distorted.... well, I hope you find a way around that somehow :) Soltan Gris 10:53, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

Brave New World icon Edit

I wanted to raise a small issue with the Brave New World icon image (BNW-only - this one). It's probably because of the way it's made, but it leaves no space at all on its sides, the visual effect being that it becomes kinda 'glued' to what comes before or after it. Unlike the GodsKings5 clear image, which looks good, for example. I've been trying to remedy the problem by adding a space here and there... I know it's a lousy way to solve this, and I even think somebody (maybe even you :) ) has been rolling back my edits, deleteng the spaces. But I still think the icon image looks ugly and unlike the others we use, so... What should we do? Soltan Gris 11:48, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I know I have to edit the icon, but I don't know how to even find the relevant image, let alone edit it and then make it into the same template...

Hey, I did the change. First I tried to edit the picture itself, but this didn't produce the desired result, so I reverted it to the original. Then I included spaces before and after the image. Can you please check the end result? I think it looks better than before.... Soltan Gris 15:58, December 25, 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I just added something about roads when building a new city. can you please check it? It is my first edit (hurrah!) and my English is far from perfect :) 08:14, January 18, 2014 (UTC)

Hey Becer,

Lately I've been busying myself with a review of the Game Concepts section and I've noticed something that I think might warrant attention. In my understanding this part of the Wiki is for articles related to the game systems, that is - more generalized articles, which explain the mechanixs of the game. But I'm seeing people adding to it particular articles like the Great Scientist article, which in my opinion must be a part  of the Great People article, and not individually inserted in Game concepts. My point is if we start adding all individual articles like that, the section will become far too big and muddled.

I may be too picky, but.... I don't know. What do you think? And on a related topic, how do we remove a category once it's been added to a page? Soltan Gris 19:16, February 11, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, so I guess we're on the same page. I think I'll remove some instances of the Game Concept category. anyway, it can always be added back later.

Some categories are useful for grouping together things, for example Ranged Units, Tank Units, etc., so that people interested are taken to a place where they see all individual things making up the category.

Problem: the method for removing category isn't working in Source mode, and some pages don't have visual mode. Also, in many cases I can't even see the Game concepts category for some reason.... Do you know of something which adds it automatically?

Hi Becer!

I would like to get permission to change my background for my site:

I am very active and I edit content very often, as my scenario changes. It is the main page of my scenario and I have a link to it from Steam, Facebook and civfanatics. I'm improving it making new links and new content. That's why I would like to have something on the background, related to Lord of the Rings and CIV V.

I look forward to you reply.

Thanks in advance.

Need some help Edit

Hi Becer,

I have changed the layout for my lord of the rings civ v site (, not it's monobook.css. I would like to put a background image, but I get completely lost. I have read the forums, I know it's necessary to change the monobook.css, but I don't know how to access it. Can you help me, please?

Thanks in advance. --Ispanets (talk) 07:06, February 26, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I need a little more help... Edit

Hi Becer!

I have typed , the page opens up but I can not edit and do anything. How can I put there my css code?

Sorry for coming again and again to you because of this issue.

Hi Becer!

My own wiki, where? I have it here in wikia, do you mean outside it?

Thanks! Will try that!

Sid Meier Interview OpportunityEdit

Hey there Becer, my name is Doug and I'm a member of Wikia's Community Development Team. We've got an exciting opportunity to conduct an interview with the one and only Sid Meier! Maintenance requestEdit

Lately, an annoying anonymous contributor has been making something nonsense about Rhys Dann, and he has even committed some serious acts of vandalism. Please block that anon contributor so that he cannot make vandalism anymore.

Also, there are quite many things that have been nominated for deletion, but as of today, they have not yet been deleted. Can you please remove them for good?
