  • Just wanted to let you know I created four new templates - Template:Eureka6, Template:Inspiration6, Template:NuclearDevice6, and Template:ThermonuclearDevice6 - that automatically add textual links to the Boost (Civ6) and Nuclear weapons (Civ6) pages, which should now be the only places we need to use the original ("Icon6") templates. I've used them to replace the corresponding "Icon6" templates on some pages, but if you or Robal91 could run a bot to handle the rest of the replacements, it'd speed things up quite a bit.

    Thanks for all you do!

  • I've done some more stuff.

First, I added the 2D icons for the Civ4 buildings and categorized them. I created a template called Template:SureIconIcon4 which grabs the icons (with a link but no text) using the format (<item> (icon) (Civ4).png). You can see a nice showcase of how this turned out at Unique building (Civ4). An exhaustive list is seen at List of buildings in Civ4. I still have to do the Wonders--I have them extracted but not uploaded yet.

I also added the remainder of the small icons found at Assets\res\Fonts\GameFont.tga. You can see them at Template:Icon templates (Civ4). These in-line icons have to do with basic game concepts like Trade Routes, Movement, Strength, Capital, Great Person Points, etc. I have added these little icons (in their nice little templates) to various pages, but there is much more to add still.

I like how it turned out so far, but any feedback would be appreciated. -CD

    • I've removed the ifexist parser from the SureIconIcon4 template and moved it into the Building and Wonder templates, in order to grab the " (icon) (Civ4)" version of items with 3D models and the " (Civ4).png" version of other items, without having the parser within the SureIconIcon4 template itself.

    • It is good. I agree with Robal. Make the changes. If there is something more dramatic to do, we can change it in the future. In the long run, there are always going to be inefficiencies in a wiki.

  • Hello. I've overhauled the Resource page for Civ4. One thing that I'd like is to have the resource icons be the full size, instead of the tiny size. I think that this would make it look way better, and more similar in style to the Civ5 and Civ6 pages. However, it appears that the only large Resource icon is for Horse. I saw that you worked on that icon some months ago; you added transparency and cropped it.

I was thinking about creating new templates for all the Civ4 resources, naming them, e.g. {{gems4Big}}. I would need to upload the full-size icons, first. However, I don't have them on hand. Do you know where to get all the Civ4 icons? I tried looking for .dds files in the program directory, but I couldn't find the ones for Resources. Even if I did, I would probably have to extract them somehow, since icons seem to be arranged in a grid, in the .dds files.

You seem to be a guru with these kinds of things, so I'm asking you for help.

    • I was thinking about that too. These small icons are too small and very blurry.

  • There is a problem with categories not being filled by pages (or not all pages at least). For example:

    https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Ranged_units_(Civ6)

I see here only 3 pages, I don't see for example an Archer https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Archer_(Civ6) but on Archer page I see it is in that category.

I've tried refreshing, deleting cache, purging the category but nothing worked. Do you have a solution for that? Maybe I've messed up something when I was editing the infobox templates?

    Thanks for help!

    • Thanks! It might be needed to do that on other pages too. Maybe we can create a bit job that will null-save every civ6 page.

    • I'm currently re-saving all civ6 pages to trigger categories refresh. I had some trouble creating page list (because categories were not filled properly) but I figured out a workaround.

  • Can you change the styling of the links in civ6 steam achivement boxes so that they are readable? Currently it's very hard to read them. Thanks!

    • Changes to the CSS take a while to change. Yes I have refreshed my cache over and over. Hopefully the css changes I did were correct.

    • It still hasn't updated the css. however if you want to see it now go here [1]

  • Since you're one of the most active editors/coders here, I want you to know that I created new Civ6 icon templates that automatically insert links to the various resource and capital pages along with the icons. Previously, these templates rendered only an icon that linked to the relevant page, so duplicate words will need to be deleted from the pages that use them. I've made several of the relevant changes already and will make more when I have time to spare, but if you notice any other pages where changes are necessary, feel free to make them yourself (or have your bot make them, if you want to save yourself some work).

  • I notice you added a hatnote to Janissary (Civ6) to direct readers to the subpage for the unit from Jadwiga's Legacy. Do you think this is necessary, since the main page already has a See also section that points to this page? It seems that one or the other should be removed to cut down on redundancy.

    • I know we don't have a manual of style. Hatnotes seem to be the standard way to redirect people to other pages on other wikis, at least on Wikipedia. And while we have the right to have any style that we want, I would assume the average user is going to use Wikipedia far more than this site, and will expect similarly named pages to be in a hatnote. The programmer in me wants to eliminate redundency, DRY principles (Don't Repeat Yourself) doesn't necessarily extend to UIs[1]. If you feel strongly about removing the hatnote or the see also section, I wouldn't oppose it. I guess I would side with keeping it.

  • Hey,

I want to start working on the infobox teamplates soon and firstly I want to unify the format of common fields for all infoboxes, namely:

    - the 'Introduced in' field (some templates have 'Introduced in', some have 'DLC required', some templates have the text as the image caption). I think it should be unified.

    - the 'Mode' or 'Scenario' (possible values: Apocalypse, Regular, Scenario-specific (for example Jadwiga's Legacy))

I see you've added 'scenario' data field to Great Person template, but I think it would be better to be consistent and use 'mode' for this (like for example in Natural wonder infobox template) - see https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Bermuda_Triangle_(Civ6)

What do you think? We have to determine the field names.

Moreover, I don't understand why we have scenario-specific template for city states? Was there any problem with adding 'scenario' to basic template? If it's only the icon that is generic for some scenario city-states I think it can be worth to try to merge those templates.

    Mike

  • I contacted Geoff Knorr about the music and here is what he said

"The Mayan main theme includes three traditional Mayan pieces, "Rabinal Achi," "Xtoles," and "Bolonchon". Gran Colombia's main theme includes "Velo Que Bonito," "Reir Llorando," and in the medieval era, "Pajarillo" as well."

  • I've added recently missing infoboxes for all great person classes in Civ6. But some of them (especially great engineers) have more than 1 charge. I wanted to update the template so that when build charges paramter is defined and it's greater than 1 display "Activation effect" instead of "Retire effect". I've tried some commits, but I couldn't do it. I need your help.

    https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Template:Great_Person_(Civ6)?action=edit

    I tried something like this:

      <data source="retire effect">
      {{#ifeq: {{#if:{{{number of uses}}} | {{{number of uses}}} | 1 }} > 1 | <label>Activation effect</label> | <label>Retire effect</label> }} <format>{{{retire effect}}}</format>
      </data>

but it didn't work. I don't know how can I use multiple data sources in portable infoboxes. Thanks for help! Mike

    • I know there is a way to do that, but I don't know how to do that. I just went to one of the engineer pages and changed the template to {{Great Person (Civ6)/Draft}}. I never saved the changes, I just kept on previewing it. I know if you convert an older infobox into its new format, fandom provides a template that does that automatically. I am not sure how to make that work though.

    • Oh without saving is enough I think :) I didn't think of that. Thanks!
