  • Since you're one of the most active editors/coders here, I want you to know that I created new Civ6 icon templates that automatically insert links to the various resource and capital pages along with the icons. Previously, these templates rendered only an icon that linked to the relevant page, so duplicate words will need to be deleted from the pages that use them. I've made several of the relevant changes already and will make more when I have time to spare, but if you notice any other pages where changes are necessary, feel free to make them yourself (or have your bot make them, if you want to save yourself some work).

  • I notice you added a hatnote to Janissary (Civ6) to direct readers to the subpage for the unit from Jadwiga's Legacy. Do you think this is necessary, since the main page already has a See also section that points to this page? It seems that one or the other should be removed to cut down on redundancy.

    • I know we don't have a manual of style. Hatnotes seem to be the standard way to redirect people to other pages on other wikis, at least on Wikipedia. And while we have the right to have any style that we want, I would assume the average user is going to use Wikipedia far more than this site, and will expect similarly named pages to be in a hatnote. The programmer in me wants to eliminate redundency, DRY principles (Don't Repeat Yourself) doesn't necessarily extend to UIs[1]. If you feel strongly about removing the hatnote or the see also section, I wouldn't oppose it. I guess I would side with keeping it.

  • Hey,

I want to start working on the infobox teamplates soon and firstly I want to unify the format of common fields for all infoboxes, namely:

    - the 'Introduced in' field (some templates have 'Introduced in', some have 'DLC required', some templates have the text as the image caption). I think it should be unified.

    - the 'Mode' or 'Scenario' (possible values: Apocalypse, Regular, Scenario-specific (for example Jadwiga's Legacy))

I see you've added 'scenario' data field to Great Person template, but I think it would be better to be consistent and use 'mode' for this (like for example in Natural wonder infobox template) - see https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Bermuda_Triangle_(Civ6)

What do you think? We have to determine the field names.

Moreover, I don't understand why we have scenario-specific template for city states? Was there any problem with adding 'scenario' to basic template? If it's only the icon that is generic for some scenario city-states I think it can be worth to try to merge those templates.

    Mike

    • How can I use ExplodeForeach with PageIcon6 and pass 'linebreak=true' to PageIcon template? I tried introducing new parameter to ExplodeForeach, but somehow it gets messed up with the '=' character. I would like to use it for example in the Terrain template for features section. See

    • I think you just need to make a new template. PageIconVertical6 or PageIconLb6 to make that work. I am horrible with coming up with new names.

  • I contacted Geoff Knorr about the music and here is what he said

"The Mayan main theme includes three traditional Mayan pieces, "Rabinal Achi," "Xtoles," and "Bolonchon". Gran Colombia's main theme includes "Velo Que Bonito," "Reir Llorando," and in the medieval era, "Pajarillo" as well."

  • I've added recently missing infoboxes for all great person classes in Civ6. But some of them (especially great engineers) have more than 1 charge. I wanted to update the template so that when build charges paramter is defined and it's greater than 1 display "Activation effect" instead of "Retire effect". I've tried some commits, but I couldn't do it. I need your help.

    https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Template:Great_Person_(Civ6)?action=edit

    I tried something like this:

      <data source="retire effect">
      {{#ifeq: {{#if:{{{number of uses}}} | {{{number of uses}}} | 1 }} > 1 | <label>Activation effect</label> | <label>Retire effect</label> }} <format>{{{retire effect}}}</format>
      </data>

but it didn't work. I don't know how can I use multiple data sources in portable infoboxes. Thanks for help! Mike

    • I know there is a way to do that, but I don't know how to do that. I just went to one of the engineer pages and changed the template to {{Great Person (Civ6)/Draft}}. I never saved the changes, I just kept on previewing it. I know if you convert an older infobox into its new format, fandom provides a template that does that automatically. I am not sure how to make that work though.

    • Oh without saving is enough I think :) I didn't think of that. Thanks!

  • Hi I've seen you confirmed Pacal as leader for Maya civilization in its wiki page. Could you please tell me where did you find the official confirmation? I'm very interested in the topic as fan of this civilization :)

    • I just copied what the original creator of the page put on it. I guess I can remove it.

  • hm, tried it some seconds ago, but my post won't appear ... strange ... so next try:

    Hi there,

since in the civ1-tech tree each advance requires max. 2 different other advances, I would like to change the table under List of advances in Civ1 towards something partly sortable, the requirements separated in 2 colums, and the entries in the column Advance as h4-headlines, to be linkable from the entries in the requirements ... a first try here.

Since I did this in several tables on several Wikis, I'm just wondering, it seems not to work here, maybe because here are many things are done with templates, with which I'm not nearly familiar, I wish :)

And since I realized, that you seem one of the main editors here, my question: is it possible to create a table as I suggested in the first paragraph?

Sorry about my - maybe - poor english, it isn't my first language ;)

    • checked and double checked all relations, allocations, and links in the table ... seems perfect now :) ... as written above: you may decide, if it's worth to copy it to the original page.

    • It looks good. I copied it over. I wasn't sure what the allows section on the bottom was for, or the links on the top. I don't mind you adding them in to the main page if you like.

  • Hey! I see you are doing some work with categories. I tried to clean up civ6 comppetitions category, but somehow I can't remove main Civ 6 category from competitions pages. There is already a category, but it's empty now: https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Scored_Competitions_(Civ6)

These pages should be in this category and I think they should be removed from main Civ 6 category: https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/World%27s_Fair_(Civ6) https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/World_Games_(Civ6) https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Nobel_Prize_Competitions_(Civ6) https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Aid_Request_(Civ6) https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Climate_Accords_(Civ6) https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/International_Space_Station_(Civ6) https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Military_Aid_Request_(Civ6)

One another question I have is that maybe the category should be names just "Competitions (Civ6)"?

    Thanks for help!

    • The Civilization VI and Game element (Civ6) categories on those pages are added automatically by {{Civ6Nav}}, the template that inserts the Back arrow at the top of the page. If you want to remove the categories, you'll have to delete the template (or perhaps replace it with {{BackArrow}}<nowiki> to give readers an easy way to jump between pages). And yes, I think "Competitions (Civ6)" is a better name for your proposed category than "Scored Competitions (Civ6)," since the former is more commonly used to refer to them.

        Loading editor
    • I renamed the category page, and removed the civilization 6 category. I added a few pages to that category. See how I did it = [1]

    • Thanks!

Actually I was thinking whether these projects' pages should contain a back arrow to main Civ VI page at all?

    • Additional navigation arrows don't hurt. Navigation arrows on the smaller pages, isn't consistant with the rest of the pages on this wiki. Adding the template like {{Civ6}} might be sufficient. However those don't show on mobile pages so maybe there is a place for the arrows.
