Montezuma II (c. 1466 – June 1520) was the ninth ruler of the Aztec Empire. He leads the Aztecs in Sid Meier's Civilization.

"The Aztec emperor at the time of the Spanish conquest, he was a brutal despot and angered his subject peoples. Cortez took advantage of this unpopularity, enlisting the aid of 30,000 Indian allies for the march on the Aztec capital. Montezuma’s belief that the Spanish were the descendants of gods kept him from recognizing the danger and adequately preparing his formidable army."
