New Alliances: Introductory Conquest 3 is a scenario in Civilization III: Conquests. It created to showcase the Locked Alliances features.

Description[]

Ask anyone on Bactar Island what the cause of the original dispute was and he'll probably tell you he can't remember, or that it doesn't matter. The fact is the four peoples of Bactar have warred among themselves longer than anyone can remember. Now however, two of them have finally set aside their differences and formed an alliance. Realizing the potential danger of this pact, the people of the other two nations have also formed a second confederation. Can one of these alliances best the other in mortal combat? Only time will tell...

Intro[]

Background[]

It is 700 AD, yet for centuries uncountable the island of Bactar has been a brutal battleground, as its people warred for control of its land and resources. Recently, however, the Germans upset the balance by forming a military alliance with the once-despised Byzantines, with plans to pick off the other civilizations one by one. Which inevitably forced the Portuguese into a similar, albeit distasteful, alliance. This new balance of power has yet to be tested on the battlefield. Can one of these confederations vanquish the other, or will the war continue interminably?

Special[]

This warfare-oriented tutorial presents the new LOCKED ALLIANCES and LOCKED AT WAR features. Your civilization will automatically be allied with one of the other civilizations; this alliance cannot be broken during play. Since the geography of this land is long known to its inhabitants, large portions of the map are revealed from the start of play, another new feature. Each of the four civilizations involved in this blood feud begins with equal numbers of troops and cities.

Victory[]

In order to win this mission, you will need to work with your ally. Assisting them in technology and gaining favor will increase your chances of success. Individual scoring is not shown, only the overall score of your alliance. Conquest is the main goal of the mission, and each civilization has a King unit. Destroying a King will also destroy his civilization.

Notes[]

Plan carefully! Although you start the scenario in very close proximity to your ally and at least one of your enemies, do not plan an early attack without ensuring that your own cities are adequately defended. Your King unit is just as valuable to the opposing Civs, as theirs are to you.
