Back to 1066: Year of Viking Destiny
The Norwegian people represent a playable civilization from the 1066: Year of Viking Destiny scenario in Civilization V. They are led by Harald Hardrada.

- Unique Ability: Viking Fury (Embarked units have +1 movement and pay just 1 movement point to move from sea to land. Melee units pay no movement point cost to pillage.)
- Unique Unit: Berserker (replaces Longswordsman)

Civilopedia entry[]
Norway, under the rule of King Harald “Hard Ruler” Sigurdsson, would embark on numerous military campaigns against Denmark in an attempt to usurp the Danish throne during the 11th century. After the death of Magnus I in 1047, Harald disputed the notion that Sweyn II was the legitimate ruler of Denmark and the two became notorious rivals. Despite several attempts, Harald was never successful in conquering Sweyn, and instead set his sights on the English throne. In September of 1066, Harald would invade England, only to be killed at the Battle of Stamford Bridge by the armies of Harold Godwinson.

- The Norwegian civilization is technically an adaptation of Germans for the 1066: Year of Viking Destiny scenario, and as such re-uses the German musical theme, “Ode of Joy”.
