}} The Opera House is a Modern Age Culture and Diplomacy building in Civilization VII.
Strategy[]
The Opera house is a great building. The culture can allow a player to get though civics faster. This is useful for getting to political theory or progressing through ideology trees. If the player has the Bureaucratic monarchy and chooses democracy, they get a special event to build five opera houses in 20 turns for a bonus.
Civilopedia entry[]
Opera calls to mind a tradition that began in the Baroque era, in the 17th century, as Europe re-imagined the sung chorus of classical plays. The works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giacomo Puccini, and Richard Wagner are typical examples of this development, producing grand sung spectacles put on stage for an elite audience such as the Marriage of Figaro, La Bohème, or Der Ring des Nibelungen. But these are just a few of the operatic traditions around the world. Chinese jingju, the Beijing Opera tradition from the Qing Dynasty onward, and other various Chinese traditions would also fit the definition – as would the elite noh tradition of Japan (or its more populist kabuki theater). In mainland Southeast Asia, elaborate khon dances enacted Hindu myths. In the islands of Southeast Asia, wayang shadow-puppets depicted the same stories in all-night performances. Malian griot singing and a wide variety of Indian dance traditions also serve the same general function as “opera” in the West: to dazzle and engage audiences with story and song.
