Palenque, also known as Bàakʼ or Lakamha, is the Mayan capital in some of the Civilization games and a Mayan city in others and the Call to Power games, and also appears as a city-state. In real life, it was a Mayan city-state that flourished in the 7th century.

Palenque appears as a city-state. In the Maya & Gran Colombia Pack, with the introduction of the Maya as a playable civilization, Palenque became a Mayan city and was replaced with Mitla under all rulesets.
