Pollution is a recurring element in the Civilization and Call to Power games. Certain buildings and nuclear weapons, or just excessive production, can cause pollution, making it more common in empires with many well-developed cities.
Excessive pollution can spread to the tiles surrounding a city, reducing their productivity until the mess is cleaned up by a Worker. It can can also cause global warming, melting the Ice on the map and gradually transforming land tiles into Deserts.
