"This loss (of freedom) means the fading from human life of values infinitely precious to it. There only remain ironbound conditions of employment and trivial amusements for leisure."

Game info

Requires Autocracy. In addition to +2 20xHappiness5 Happiness Happiness, the Prora resort also provides +1 more 20xHappiness5 Happiness Happiness for every 2 Social Policies you have adopted. 1 Free Social Policy. Must be constructed in a coastal city.

Strategy

Build the Prora as soon as possible before other players with the Autocracy ideology can build it. The happiness ability is very useful when you're adopting new policies, allowing you to halve the unhappiness of your empire when expanding or when struggling against foreign influence and the free Social Policy allows to you to advance faster in the Social Policy trees. But the main trouble of the Prora is the lack of culture boosters, leaving your civilization very vulnerable to the foreign influence against the tourism wave and the unfavorable public opinion. To prevent this kind of problems is recommendable build many culture buildings in the cities and achieve many Great Works and build up the Prora as soon as possible after adopting Autocracy. In this way, your civilization should be ALMOST immune to the culture struggle with the foreign civilizations.

Prora wonder art

Built between 1936 and 1939, Prora was to be a massive beach resort on the Baltic island of Ruegen. The massive megalomaniac complex was intended to provide vacations for German workers. As originally planned, the Prora Resort would consist of eight blocks of ten housing units, capable of providing rooms for 20,000 vacationers. The complex, if completed, would also have included restaurants, cinemas, swimming pools, gymnasiums, ballrooms and other amenities, all served by a rail station and a quay for cruise ships. The outbreak of World War II halted construction; during the war the buildings were used to house refugees and later served as a military hospital. After the war, the complex was occupied by Soviet units for a period, and then stripped of all useable materials, down to the wiring and plumbing. Aside from a museum for East German history, most of the complex has fallen to decay.

Trivia

Before the Brave New World Expansion is released, the Eiffel Tower shared the Prora happiness ability. The only main difference between the BNW Prora wonder and the Vanilla Eiffel Tower wonder is the one-time happiness bonus (the Eiffel Tower produces +5 happiness unlike the Prora's +2 happiness bonus). With the appearance of Tourism, the Eiffel Tower abilities have been changed and the Prora took the Eiffel Tower abilities, but only available for players who adopted the Autocracy ideology.
