BackArrowGreen Back to the list of tile improvements

The Quarry is a standard tile improvement in Civilization VI. It requires Mining and may only be built on certain resources. If it is built on a Luxury Resource, then the city will gain use of that resource.

Strategy[]

The Quarry is another early Production Production-boosting improvement, albeit one that can only be built on certain resources. It is, however, less oriented towards aiding Production Production and more oriented towards providing a more diverse set of benefits. With the Stone Circles pantheon every Quarry turns into a major Faith Faith generator, which is very important early-to-mid game.

Just like the Mine, Quarries provide a +1 adjacency bonus to your Industrial Zones. However, unlike the Mine, you can't choose where you will place a Quarry.

As of the June 2019 Update, Quarries provide twice the adjacency bonus to Industrial Zones than Mines and Lumber Mills do, so keeping Stone Stone near your cities can provide an easy boost to your industrial capabilities.

Building a Quarry triggers the Eureka Eureka for Masonry.

Civilopedia entry[]

Once people started building structures out of stone rather than sticks and mud, the need for stone and rock increased. Those came from quarries, an open pit where picks and hammers and chisels (and later dynamite and bulldozers) were used to hack out chunks of marble, limestone, granite, slate, sandstone, or whatever else was useful. As the tools became more sophisticated, slabs could be cut away, and then polished on the site. The oldest known quarries have been located in the Aswan region of Egypt, and the lands of the once Roman Empire are dotted with marble quarries (they needed a lot for all those grand buildings). Whereas the Egyptians and Romans and other civilized ancients mostly used slaves and condemned criminals (life expectancy in quarries not being long), on Easter Island the entire community chipped moai out of quarries. Today, quarry miners are considered skilled professionals.
