Range Range is a property of units with ranged attacks in Civilization VI. It determines how far away the unit can attack. When Range Range is 1, the unit can only attack targets on the six hexes that are immediately next to it. With a Range Range of 2, the unit can attack any of the 18 nearest hexes. Units that have a Range Range of 3 can cover a total of 36 hexes.

Range Range is limited by the attacker's Sight Sight, which is affected by terrain and features on the tiles the attacker and defender occupy: Hills, Woods, and Rainforests all impose terrain penalties to Range Range, and the penalties are cumulative. For example, an Archer on a Plains tile will not be able to target a unit on another Plains tile if there are Hills between them, nor will an Archer on a Hills tile be able to target a unit if there is a wooded Hills tile between them. For more information, see this article.

When a ranged unit uses its ranged attack, it is safe from any harm in that battle. This means that the unit or city being attacked cannot do damage to the unit using a ranged attack.

Cities have a Range Range of 2. This means that units that have a Range Range of 3 can attack cities without exposing themselves to retaliation.
