Strategy[]
Reefs are an aquatic terrain feature found along the coastline. They block the construction of Harbors, Water Parks, and wonders, but are otherwise very valuable on their own. They increase the Food and
Production potential of their tile and provide a
Combat Strength bonus to units defending there. They can also contain
Fish and
Turtles and thus accept the Fishing Boats improvement, which makes them even more valuable.
After fully developing the Harbor of a nearby city, a Reef tile will yield +3 Food, +1
Production, and +5
Gold, as well as +1
Science if you also have a Water Park with an Aquarium.
Reefs provide a +2 Science adjacency bonus for Campuses.
Civilopedia entry[]
Reefs form beneath the surface of open water and serve as speedbumps for ships. Though some are composed of inorganic material such as sand, rock, or accumulated shipwrecks on reefs made of sand and rock, the most vibrant are coral reefs found in tropical waters.
