The Seaxman is a unique unit from the Fall of Rome scenario of Civilization V: Gods & Kings. Only the Frankish civilization can build it.

Game Info[]

Strong, front-line land Unit, which can only be built by the Franks. This Unit has a higher Combat Strength Combat Strength than the Swordsman, which it replaces. It starts with the Amphibious promotion.

Strategy[]

The Seaxman is the Frankish unique unit. It has a slightly higher Combat Strength Combat Strength than the Swordsman, which it replaces. Additionally it does not require any Iron Iron resources. It starts with the Amphibious promotion, allowing it to attack from the ocean and across rivers without penalty.

Civilopedia entry[]

The seax is a large knife or short, curved sword with a notched blade and favored by many warriors of Celtic and Frankish tribes. Equally useful as both a tool and a weapon, the seax was particularly effective in close-range, melee combat. Over the decades of the barbarian migrations, various versions were developed, including the schmalsax (narrow seax) and the breitsax (broad seax) as well as long and short versions of each. In the epic poem Beowulf, the hero uses a seax to chop apart a dragon and Grendel's mother uses one when fighting Beowulf.

Trivia[]

  • Contrary to its description and the time period, the Seaxman reuses the model, the icon, and (with a different background color) the portrait of the Huscarl, the unique Anglo-Saxon unit from the 1066: Year of Viking Destiny scenario that wields a battle axe.
