Britain’s growing desire for wool in the 19th Century turned the sheep rearing business into an important part of Australia’s colonial economies. Wool was one of the few commodities that wouldn’t degrade during long sea voyages, so distant colonial wool production served British interests—and the accounts of Australian graziers.
