The Spanish are a civilization in Civilization II.

Color

The Spanish are a yellow civilization. A game involving the Spanish will not include the Aztecs or Egyptians.

Leaders

Philip and Isabella (Civ2)

The default male leader of the Spanish is Philip II (1527–1598), a Habsburg king of Spain, Portugal, Naples, Sicily, England, and Ireland, as well as duke of Milan, lord of the Netherlands, and ruler of Spain's many colonies in the New World and Philippines. Inheriting a world-spanning empire from his father Charles V, he squandered its wealth and position in failed attempts to curtail the Protestant English and Dutch and presided over repeated bankruptcies despite the influx of silver from Mexico and Peru.

The default female leader is Isabella (1451–1504), Trastamara queen of Castile and Leon, wife of the king of Aragon, and great-grandmother to Philip II. Flush with wealth from efficient administration, expropriation of Jewish funds, and the conquest of Granada, she was the patron of Columbus's voyages of exploration, which ultimately provided Spain an empire stretching across Central and South America. Her marriage policies united her family and lands with the Habsburg domains in central Europe but her desire for unity within reconquered Spain prompted the Inquisition.

Spanish leaders use governments' default titles except under fundamentalism, when—like French and German leaders—they are known as "archbishops".

Personality

The Spanish AI is rational, expansionist, and militaristic.
