Speed is a game setting in Civilization VI that modifies the general costs and "scales" of all actions in the game, including the number of turns. It is represented as "Game Speed" on the Game Setup menu.
There are 5 game speeds in Civilization VI:
- Online (200% speed - 250 turns)
- Quick (150% speed - 330 turns)
- Standard (normal speed - 500 turns)
- Epic (66% speed - 750 turns)
- Marathon (33% speed - 1500 turns)
Speed affects:
- All costs of Food (for Population growth), Production, Gold, Faith, Science, Culture, Influence points (to get Envoys), and Great People points.
- Most actions that produce lump sum yields, including removing terrain features, harvesting resources, pillaging, clearing Barbarian outposts, and activating Great People. (Exceptions include Gold for using an Apostle with Indulgence Vendor to convert a city.)
- Prices and durations of levying units.
- Prices and durations of most diplomatic agreements and deals.
- Turns for Spies to travel and complete missions.
- Turns for a Barbarian Clan to become a city-state.
- Lifespans of Heroes.
- Era Score needed to enter a Golden Age, and not to fall into a Dark Age.
- Strategic resource costs and stockpiles.
- Diplomatic Favor needed to vote in the World Congress.
- How many Light-Years an Exoplanet Expedition must travel to win a Science Victory.
Turns and year[]
The year progresses in 7 or 8 iterations in Civilization VI. When starting in the Ancient Era the game starts in 4000 BC and ends in 2050 AD. Below is a table showing the iterations of year progression at different game speeds.
