"Spiritual" is one of the leader traits in Civilization IV and its expansions. Spiritual leaders have no Anarchy when changing a civic. They also get double production speed for the Temple and the Cristo Redentor wonder.

Strategy[]
Spiritual can be quite a useful trait as it completely avoids the penalty of anarchy that can otherwise be avoided only by a
Golden Age or with Cristo Redentor. It is also a trait that pairs greatly with other traits such as Organized or Creative, and thus can be very useful for those aiming for a Cultural Victory.
The early game is perhaps where the Spiritual trait is most useful, as it allows new civics to be adopted or newly-founded religions to become the state religion (or both, in the case of Monotheism) immediately after discovering the requisite technologies. In regards to the state religion, its bonus to Temple construction speed can be a valuable source of
Culture early on. This trait also makes wonders such as the Pyramids or the Shwedagon Paya even more useful, allowing for the relatively quick and easy adoption of late-game civics such as Free Religion and Police State.
The Spiritual trait's uses begin to dry up as the game progresses and the need to adopt new civics becomes less and less pronounced. It also doesn't make production of Cathedrals faster, which makes the Temple production bonus aspect of the trait much less useful after the need for them diminishes. As such, non-cultural players will find this trait pairs well with those such as Aggressive and Imperialistic, which allow civics like Police State or Nationhood to be adopted more quickly and benefit those seeking a Conquest Victory or a Domination Victory.
By itself, the Spiritual trait is relatively useful when seeking a Diplomatic Victory with the Apostolic Palace, as it helps you adopt a state religion without anarchy. It can also be useful for a Scientific Victory, as not going through anarchy when adopting new civics such as Representation and Free Religion benefits an empire's
Science output.
Overall, the Spiritual trait is very useful in the early game but drops off in value as the game progresses (and even faster if you build the Pyramids or the Shwedagon Paya).
