Starting a new game in Civilization: Beyond Earth involves selecting what was put into the spaceship that was sent to colonize the alien planet you will be landing. You must choose your sponsor, colonists, spacecraft and cargo. These selections define the initial status of your civilization. Finally, you'll choose the map type.

There's also the possibility to do the advanced setup. There you can select the other civs, map size, difficulty level, game pace, victory types, etc.

The first thing you are to choose is your sponsor. The sponsors are the big things in the game, "who you represent". Their benefits stay with you for the length of the entire game.

Colonists

After choosing your sponsor you get to decide what kind of colonists were put into the spaceship.

When you have picked your colonists, it's time to select the special feature of your spaceship.

Cargo

Next you must select your spaceship's cargo. This defines what you have with you when you actually start the game.

Planet

Finally you choose the planet you are going to colonize. The planets have different names, but these options are always available:
